Release demand for ill prisoner Giyasettin Sevmiş 2025-06-19 16:48:20   COLEMÊRG - Human Rights Association (IHD) Colemêrg (Hakkari) Branch made a statement demanding the release of ill prisoner Giyasettin Sevmiş, who has been held in prison since 2007.   IHD Colemêrg Branch manager Dindar Koç said that the release of ill prisoners from prisons and the provision of treatment opportunities and taking necessary measures is an important agenda.   Stating that after the Forensic Medicine Institution’s (ATK) reports, the fate of ill prisoners was left to the Administration and Observation Boards of prisons, Koç said: "It is unacceptable for the observation boards to express their opinions on seriously ill prisoners and this leads to human rights violations. It is clear that most of the decisions of the administration and the ATK, which are incompatible with human rights and freedoms, wound the conscience of the society. It is essential that these reports, which are given in violation of human rights and leave humanitarian values aside, come to the agenda of politics and new regulations should be made in making decisions by taking important steps in this regard."   Pointing out that the life-threatening situation of Gıyasettin Sevmiş, who is imprisoned in Erzurum Dumlu High Security Closed Prison No 2, is increasing day by day, Koç stressed: We call out again to the rulers of the state who are not aware of the seriousness of the situation of ill prisoners; Prisons should not be houses of death, the obstacles preventing ill prisoners from freely accessing their right to treatment should be removed and legal arrangements should be made to cover all ill prisoners.”
