DİYARBAKIR - Making a call for the birthday of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, of whom they demand his physical freedom, and said: "Let's turn our faces towards Amara, with the spirit of March 8 and Newroz."

 

MED Families of Detainees and Convicts, Legal and Solidarity Associations Federation (MED TUHAD-FED), Democratic Society Congress (DTK), Free Women's Movement (TJA), Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP)  held a press release regarding the physical freedom of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and his 73rd birthday.

 

FREEDOM NEWROZ

 

Speaking at the meeting, MED TUHAD-FED Co-Chair Zeki Baran stated that Öcalan has been held in isolation for 23 years, which is unprecedented in the world. Mentioning Öcalan's role in the solution of the Kurdish question, Baran said, "With the letter read by Mr. Öcalan at the Newroz 2013, millions flocked to the Newroz celebrations, demonstrating that they embraced the road map. With the end of the peace process by AKP Chairman Erdoğan, a very dark period stared for Turkey and Kurdistan. During the AKP-MHP rule, the coup-war policies were put into action once again."

 

Emphasizing that the Kurds resisted against all oppression and attacks of the Turkish state, Baran said, "Since 2013, the Kurdish people held the largest Newroz celebrations in their history in 2022. The Newroz celebrations of 2022, which has turned into a referendum of the freedom of the Kurdish people, once again pointed to the resolution of the Kurdish problem through democratic negotiations and peaceful methods through Abdullah Öcalan. The Kurdish people flocked to the celebrations in Kurdistan and all over the world, raising the flag of resistance against war and exploitation. In the Newroz celebrations, the demand for freedom of all political prisoners, especially Kurdish People's Leader Mr. Abdullah Öcalan, was shouted. This demand is also the cause of the Kurdish question. It is a call for a solution with democratic political methods."

 

CALL FOR THE MARCH TOWARDS AMARA

 

Referring to the April 4 events, Baran said: "April 4, which has become the symbol of peace against war, freedom against slavery, equality against exploitation, for the Kurdish people and the peoples of the region, is also the birthday of Mr. Öcalan. This day is welcomed by planting saplings in the first week of April. We invite all our people to plant saplings for a new life and rebirth wherever they are between the 1st and 10th of April. We are calling on to all our people to embrace the demand for a free life for the Kurds, for a peaceful solution to the Kurdish question, for an end to the isolation to participate in the march towards Amara on April 4."
