NEWS CENTER – Journalist Egîd Roj, who was killed while covering attacks on the Tishreen Dam, was commemorated at his grave on the anniversary of his death.

Roj lost his life on February 15, 2025, while reporting on assaults carried out by Turkey and affiliated paramilitary groups targeting the Tishreen Dam. Dozens of residents, journalists, and community figures from Hasakah gathered at the Martyr Dijwar Cemetery in the village of Dawudiyah to honour his memory. ,

The ceremony began with a moment of silence. Speaking at the event, Dîlan Osman of the Women’s Press Union (YRJ) said that targeting journalists is not an ordinary crime but an attempt to silence the truth and break the will of the people.

Syamend Eli, spokesperson for the People’s Defense Units (YPG), stated that despite his young age, Roj assumed significant responsibility toward his country, revolution, and people. “Martyr Egîd joined the revolution from the very beginning because he was aware of the dangers facing the population,” he said.

Roj’s mother, Seidet Tewfiq, noted that her son had always dreamed of returning to Afrin and expressed her belief that his colleagues would fulfil that dream.

The ceremony concluded with a pledge to continue the struggle until Egîd Roj’s hopes and aspirations are realized.
