RIHA – Speaking at a protest marking the anniversary of the February 15 “international conspiracy,” DEM Party provincial co-chair Ayşe Sürücü said the “politics of destruction and denial targeted by the February 15 conspiracy is being overcome today by Mr. Öcalan’s will for peace.”
The demonstration was held in Riha (Urfa, Turkey), the hometown of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, on the 27th anniversary of the alleged international plot against him. ,
The group issued a press statement. Ayşe Sürücü, provincial co-chair of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party, described February 15, 1999, referred to by many Kurds as “Roja Reş (Black Day)”, as the anniversary of the international conspiracy against Abdullah Öcalan.
She said the operation, which reportedly lasted about four months and extended from Europe to Africa, led not only to legal debates but also to a major societal rupture. Ayşe Sürücü stated that the date remains central to discussions on democratic solutions and continues to influence both Turkish and global politics.
Emphasizing that the February 15 conspiracy suffered a historic defeat in the face of Öcalan’s “unwavering determination for a solution” on İmralı Island, she added, “At this critical moment, as regional conflicts risk expanding to include Turkey and Kurdistan, Mr. Öcalan’s ideas and capacity for resolution present the greatest opportunity for our peoples. The politics of destruction and denial targeted by the February 15 conspiracy is being overcome today by his will for peace.”
CALL TO IMPLEMENT THE ‘RIGHT TO HOPE’
DEM Party Riha MP Ferit Şenyaşar also addressed the crowd, stating that those who organized the February 15 conspiracy failed to achieve their aims. “They sought to eliminate the Kurdish people’s struggle for freedom and dignity, but that struggle continues to grow worldwide,” he said.
Şenyaşar stated that a “new February 15 conspiracy” had been attempted in Rojava but was thwarted following Öcalan’s intervention. Emphasizing that the Kurdish public wants to see concrete steps in the current process, he added, “The chief architect of this process, Mr. Öcalan, is still on İmralı. We do not accept this. The ‘Right to Hope’ must be implemented as soon as possible so that Mr. Öcalan can work more freely.”
The statement concluded with slogans from the crowd.
