NEWS CENTER - A convoy of 400 displaced families from Serêkaniyê has set off from Tiwêna to return to the city.

 

The return of people displaced because of Turkey’s military operation against Serêkaniyê on October 9, 2019 has begun. The first convoy set off this morning from a gathering point opposite Waşûkanî Camp in Tiwêna, a town in the Hesekê.

 

400 FAMILIES IN THE FIRST RETURN CONVOY

 

A total of 647 families from Serêkaniyê city and its surrounding rural areas were initially expected to return. However, logistical difficulties meant that only around 400 families were able to join the convoy. The convoy was originally scheduled to set off on August 6, but the return was postponed to August 10 because the organizational and logistical preparations had not been completed. 

 

The returns, carried out under the agreement reached between the interim Damascus administration and the SDF on January 29, are expected to continue with further convoys. The Serêkaniyê Migrants Committee said registration for families wishing to return will continue in Dêrik, Dirbêsiyê, Til Temir, Amûdê, Qamişlo and Hesekê.
