NEWS CENTER - Multiple explosions were heard in the skies above Hewlêr (Erbil, Iraq) early this morning. It was reported that the explosions were caused by a drone attack and were neutralised by missile defence systems.
Several explosions were recorded in Hewlêr between 09:00 and 11:00 this morning. According to a Rûdaw correspondent, drone attacks took place and were shot down by missile defence systems. It has been learned that the drones were struck by the defence system in the Ronaky neighbourhood on 60 Metre Street, at the Grand Majidi Mall, and in the Pirzin area.
No official statement has been made regarding the attacks so far. Over the past 24 hours, more than 10 drones have been launched at the Hewlêr region and more than five at the Silmanî region.
As of 28 February, eight people have lost their lives and 45 have been injured in the attacks. Among those killed are a security guard at Erbil International Airport, six members of the Sêhêz Peshmerga Force, and one French soldier in Erbil on 12 March.
