NEWS CENTER – Ahmad Reza Radan, Commander-in-Chief of Iran’s Law Enforcement Command, said that more than 6,500 people have been detained on various charges since the start of the war involving the United States and Israel.
The Iranian regime announced that more than 6,500 people have been detained across Iran and Rojhilat (Iran Kurdistan) on various political charges since the beginning of the war. It was also reported that the wave of detentions targeting participants in recent protests is continuing. In a statement to the Iranian news agency Tesnim, Ahmad Reza Radan, Commander-in-Chief of Iran’s Law Enforcement Command, said that more than 6,500 people had been detained on various accusations since the outbreak of the war involving the United States and Israel.
It was also stated that 567 of those detained are facing serious charges. The process of detaining people who participated in recent protests is also said to be ongoing.
Meanwhile, human rights organizations have expressed concern that the Iranian regime is using arbitrary and systematic accusations such as “espionage” to detain hundreds of people, and that statements from detainees are being obtained under pressure and torture. The continuing detentions of people involved in protests are being viewed as an attempt by the regime to use the external war crisis as an opportunity to silence dissenting voices and create a one-voice environment.
