ÊLIH - Stating that the government is dragging its feet on the process and needs to take action immediately, the Êlih (Batman) Peace Mothers said that the first step is to secure Abdullah Öcalan's physical freedom, adding, "Abdullah Öcalan's freedom is the guarantee of peace."
As the first anniversary of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan's Call for Peace and a Democratic Society on 27 February 2025 passes, the PKK has dissolved itself, ended its armed struggle, and withdrawn from areas at risk of conflict.
However, the state and those in power have not taken any concrete steps in response to these actions. It remains uncertain whether the Parliamentary Commission, expected to prepare the political and legal ground for a solution, will reflect its will for a solution in its report.
While many groups continue to expect steps from the state and the government, members of the Êlih Peace Mothers Assembly called on the government to take action immediately.
'STEPS FROM THE KURDS, DELAYING TACTICS FROM THE STATE'
Stating that the process has ended the war and deaths, Peace Mother Kamile Şimşek said that if negotiations with Abdullah Öcalan are conducted properly, the war will end completely, but that the government has not taken sufficient steps.
Stressing that Abdullah Öcalan's physical freedom must be secured, Kamile Şimşek said: "Because Serok Apo (Leader Abdullah Öcalan) wants peace both in the region and in the world. The Kurds have done everything for peace; but the state is stalling everyone. As a result, war was reignited in Rojava. Massacres were carried out against them once again. We no longer want deaths."
Reiterating the demand for Abdullah Öcalan's physical freedom, Kamile Şimşek said: "Serok Apo's freedom is the guarantee of peace in the four parts of Kurdistan. The bloodshed that has been going on for years will definitely stop, and a peaceful environment will be created."
'THERE CAN BE NO PEACE WITHOUT SEROK APO'
Peace Mother Melahat Sarhan pointed out that while everyone was talking about peace, attacks were being carried out against Rojava. She said that the Kurdish people and Abdullah Öcalan had taken all the necessary steps for peace.
"The end of all wars is peace. Everyone knows this. Serok Apo has done everything necessary for a peaceful environment. You must do the same," she stressed.
Melahat Sarhan also noted that there can be no talk of peace without Abdullah Öcalan's physical freedom. Stating that negotiations should now be held in Parliament rather than at Imrali Island Prison, she emphasised that political prisoners in jails must also be released.
