Days on, poisoned prisoners still not taken to hospital
COLEMÊRG - Prisoners poisoned at Burdur High-Security Prison have not been taken to hospital for days.
It has emerged that prisoners held at Burdur High-Security Prison were poisoned on August 7 and 11. The cause of the poisoning remains unknown, and the prisoners have reportedly not been taken to hospital. The incident came to light after the prisoners informed their families during their weekly phone calls.
Speaking to his family during a phone call, prisoner Ozan Bektaş said: “We have been suffering from poisoning since Friday. Everyone on our corridor has been poisoned. There are also people who have been poisoned on the floors above and below us. They are not taking us to hospital. They do not even let us a report written so there will be no official record. The poisoning has been continuing for days. We have pain, nausea, and diarrhea. Sometimes our vision goes dark. Even though we tell them, they do not take us to hospital.”
Bektaş said that the first prisoner showed signs of poisoning on August 7 and that, despite calling the guards, they did not respond for a long time. Bektaş said: “When the first symptoms started, it was 4 p.m. They came to the door at 11.30 p.m. and asked, ‘What’s wrong with you?’ They did nothing there either.”
Bektaş said the prison administration attributed the poisoning to the water, adding that they have been experiencing serious problems with the food served at the prison. He said: “We find flies and nails in the food. There is also not enough food in the canteen.”
