NEWS CENTER – The Gilan Teachers’ Union has announced that one of its members, Mahmud Sedighipour, has been abducted by a group believed to be linked to the Iranian authorities.
The Gilan Teachers’ Union, said an armed group, whose identity remains unknown but is said to be affiliated with the regime, detained the trade union activist in the early hours of 17 February.
According to the statement, he was taken to an undisclosed location without any formal charges or legal warrant being presented On 17 February.
Union officials said there has been no information about Sedighipour’s whereabouts since his detention.
They noted that the incident came shortly after the Iranian Teachers’ Trade Associations’ Coordination Council announced a day of mourning for students and teachers killed during protests on 18 February, and called on teachers and students to boycott schools.
The union said pressure on its members has intensified since the call was made, adding that the latest detention appears to be an attempt to intimidate union activists.
