The Human Rights Commission of the KNK issued a written statement regarding the wave of executions targeting Kurdish political prisoners and all those subjected to repression because of their political views in the Islamic Republic of Iran. In its statement, the KNK pointed out that Iranian authorities have significantly increased the number of executions over the past seven months, stating: “Among those executed are many Kurdish political prisoners who were sentenced to death following unfair trials and unreliable judicial processes. Most of these cases are based on charges such as ‘threatening national security,’ ‘espionage,’ or ‘cooperation with terrorist organizations,’ while reports by international human rights organizations show that confessions were obtained through torture, coercion, and unlawful rulings, and that the right to a fair trial was clearly violated.”

 

The statement pointed out that Iranian authorities significantly increased executions during the war between Iran and Israel and after the ceasefire was declared, adding: “Many international human rights organizations interpret this move by the Iranian authorities as an attempt to take advantage of the international community’s focus on regional crises while intensifying domestic repression.”

 

The statement continued:

 

“As the KNK Human Rights Commission, we believe that the use of the death penalty against political prisoners, particularly Kurdish activists and detainees, is not only a violation of the fundamental right to life but also part of a systematic policy of intimidation, silencing, and suppressing opposition. This practice, together with torture, forced confessions, and the denial of access to legal counsel and a fair trial, constitutes a clear violation of international human rights conventions and standards.”

 

At the end of its statement, the KNK Human Rights Commission called on the United Nations (UN), the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), and the European Union (EU) to:

 

- Make every effort to stop the execution of political prisoners in Iran.

 

- Conduct an independent, impartial, and transparent investigation into allegations of torture, forced confessions, and unfair trials.

 

- Increase diplomatic, legal, and political pressure on the Iranian authorities to end the use of the death penalty as a tool of repression.

 

- Ensure that those responsible for these grave human rights violations are brought to justice in accordance with international law and fair trial mechanisms.

 

The KNK Human Rights Commission reiterated that protecting the right to life, justice, and the right to a fair trial are fundamental principles of every democratic society that adheres to international law, warning that remaining silent in the face of this wave of executions would lead to impunity for the perpetrators and the deepening of fundamental human rights violations.
