NEWS CENTER - Drawing attention to the silence regarding the chemical used in the Federated Kurdistan Region, KNK Foreign Relations Commission Spokesperson Adem Uzun said: "We exposed the OPCW and the states on this issue."
Chemical weapons have been used many times in the attacks launched by Turkey against the Zap, Metina and Avaşîn areas of the Federated Kurdistan Region since April 17, 2022. While HPG members lost their lives as a result of the use of chemical weapons, civilians and nature in the region were affected by these attacks. While no country or institution is conducting research in the region against the calls, the attacks continue. KNK Foreign Relations Commission Spokesperson Adem Uzun spoke to Yeni Özgür Politika Newspaper on issues such as the attitude of European states against chemical weapons attacks and the approach to the isolation imposed on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
CHEMICAL WEAPONS
Drawing attention to the chemical weapons used by Turkey in Southern Kurdistan, Uzun said: "The Turkish state is doing these on the basis of an international concept. Turkey is a party to international agreements. Turkey is using all these institutions and is attacking the Kurds with an international concept. There are documents, evidence and footages, especially regarding the use of chemicals. Although public opinion was formed, the states did not act. We informed every state, parliaments affiliated to states through friendly MPs, the foreign relations of states, all international institutions including the united nations. We are against the use of chemicals, but they say that the authority on this issue is the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). We ask the OPCW. OPCW said that they have procedures and they cannot step in because we are not a state, and give the responsibility to the states. There is such a thing as escaping responsibility. This gives time, support and encouragement for the Turkish state to implement the brutality."
OPCW WAS EXPOSED
Noting that they are in contact with the United Nations (UN) mechanisms against the use of chemical weapons, Uzun said: "However, they play three monkeys. States immediately launch missiles when their interests require it or when groups and states that they consider hostile use chemical weapons. The important thing here is the conscience of the civil society, the people and the public. We can say that we have won the conscience of the society, the public and set the agenda. We can say that we have exposed the OPCW and the states on this issue."
