DİYARBAKIR - While Erdoğan revoked the sentences of İlhan Kılıç and Kenan Deniz, who were sentenced to life sentences in the February 28 trial, and Osman Kartal, who were imprisoned on trial, families comdemned the ignorance of political prisoners said it was "hypocrisy".
AKP Chairperson Recep Tayyip Erdoğan released İlhan Kılıç and Kenan Deniz, who were imprisoned in the February 28 trial, and Osman Kartal who is ordinary prisoner, on the basis of the authority granted to them by the circular “Proceedings for the Mitigation or Removal of Punishments of Persons Due to Persistent Illness, Injury and old” published on January 3. While they was being released, Erdoğan's ignorance of dozens of seriously ill political prisoners was condemned.
Relatives of 84-year-old Mehmet Emin Özkan, who was imprisoned in Diyarbakır Type D Closed Prison, and Civan Boltan, who was imprisoned in Bolu Type F Closed Prison, who had similar health problems with Erdoğan lifted his sentence, condemned the aforementioned discriminatory attitude and demanded that justice be applied equally to all.
'WE WANT JUSTICE FOR EVERYONE'
Stating that Erdoğan approached the prisoners in a political and discriminatory manner and Selma Özkan, the daughter of the ill prisoner Özkan said: "The fact that his father had angioedema 4 times and that he was not released despite many other health problems. My son Ahmet Özkan was accompanying him because he could not meet the needs. We have all seen once again that the circular of ill prisoners is insufficient. This gives the same result not only for my father, but for many ill prisoners. We want justice for everyone, but justice is not just for us. Why are our prisoners not released, while people are released in other cases? Whatever my father's crime, it does not matter because he's ill and should be released. Why are political prisoners not released, we demand a clarification on this situation. I am calling out to the President and the Ministry of Justice, what is the reason why ill prisoners are not released? We also want to learn.”
38 SERIOUS PATIENTS ARE IMPRISONED
According to the data of the Human Rights Association (İHD), 651 of the 1,517 ill prisoners are seriously ill. 38 of them need emergency release.
