MARDİN - The news stories notes and his work in the municipal press unit were considered as sufficient evidence in two separate cases that continue with the trial against journalist Murat Verim, who was imprisoned after Greece's extradition to Turkey.
Murat Verim, a reporter for the Dicle News Agency (DİHA), which was closed on October 29, 2016 with the Statutory Decree, and a journalist who worked at the Press and Public Relations Directorate in Mardin's Kerboran (Dargeçit) District Municipality until the trustee was appointed in March 2016, went to Greece. He was also arrested in Turkey, where he was handed over after being detained. It was learned that Verim, who was imprisoned in Edirne Type F Closed Prison, was arrested in the case filed against him in 2016 with the allegation of "being a member of a terrorist organization" by the Midyat High Criminal Court, as her 3-year prison sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court of Appeals for "committing a crime on behalf of a terrorist organization".
2 LAWSUITS ARE CONTINUING
Two more lawsuits were filed against Journalist Verim in 2017. Verim was accused of "being a member in a terrorist organization" in lawsuits where different people were also tried. The indictment of one of the lawsuits was accepted by the Mardin 3rd High Criminal Court, and the other was accepted by the Mardin 4th High Criminal Court. Journalism activities were made the subject of accusations in all 3 lawsuits filed against Journalist Verim. In addition, the courts continued to impose sentences and prosecute, despite the "duplicate charges" in the final and ongoing cases against Verim.
THE STATEMENTS OF THE MUNICIPAL WAS CONSIDERED A CRIME
In the file where Verim was sentenced to 3 years in prison, there is the phrase "Free Identity with Self-Management" in the upper right corner of the 96 pages of the magazine, which was published under the name of "Dargeçit Municipality Press Bulletin" in 2014-2015, and the human rights experienced during the curfews of the co-mayors. The publication of his statements regarding the violations was made the subject of accusation. In addition, the message published by the municipality on the occasion of the Human Rights Week was made the subject of accusation for Verim.
In the file, which does not contain any other accusations, it is stated that Verim was working in the Press and Public Relations Directorate of the municipality at the time of the publication of the magazine, and that the issue in question was "the fulfillment of an instruction included in the idea and action plan of the organization and that it is one of the activities carried out within the organization's hierarchical order.”
NEWS STORİES NOTES ARE IN THE INDICTMENT
In the indictment of the lawsuit filed at the Mardin 3rd High Criminal Court with the allegation of "being a member of a terrorist organization", the phrase "To Free Identity with Self-Government" in the Peace and Democracy Party's (BDP) March 30, 2014 Local Elections Declaration of Kurdish Women is again the subject of accusation. THE FILES OPENED FOR ALLEGATION
In the indictment of the lawsuit filed with the allegation of "being a member of a terrorist organization" at the Mardin 4th High Criminal Court, it was stated that an investigation was started after an HPG member who was caught injured was named. In the search made at Verim's house, it was stated in the indictment that a phone, sim card and memory card belonging to the camera were found. Verim's defense, in which he declared that he was a journalist in Kerboran, was evaluated by the prosecutor's office as a "statement to get rid of crime". In the indictment, it was demanded that Verim and those accompanying her be punished with the allegation of "being a member of an organization" based on the statements of the person in question.
Both files opened about Yilmaz and those accompanying him were submitted to the prosecutor's office for the preparation of the opinion on the merits. Hearings of both files will continue to be heard in the coming days.
