RIHA - A lawsuit was filed against JINNEWS reporter Derya Ren and 3 prisoners on the grounds of "insult" and "deliberate injury".
Urfa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office filed a lawsuit against JINNEWS reporter Derya Ren, Aslı Ceren Aslan, Sabiha Ünder and Zerga Açar for the crime of "insult and intentional injury" against the correctional officers who insulted them during the count on July 19, 2019, when they were held in Urfa No. 2 Type T Penal Institution, completed his investigation into the alleged crimes committed. In the indictment accepted by the Urfa 4th Criminal Court of First Instance, Ren and Aslan were accused of "Insult"; Zerga Açar and Sabiha Ünder are accused of "deliberate injury".

In the statements in the indictment, the prisoners denied the accusations and stated that the correction officers insulted them. In the expert report prepared regarding the incident, the camera recordings of the day of the incident were analyzed. In the footage captured on camera, it is seen that the correctional officers make gestures to the prisoners, and the prisoners respond by making a victory sign.
PUNISHMENT WAS REQUESTED
In the indictment, it was claimed that the prisoners attacked the correctional officers because of their public duty. In the indictment, which states that the officer who was allegedly attacked did not receive a report of assault after the incident, it was claimed that it was understood from the camera footage that the guards were beaten. In the indictment, which stated that the prisoners committed the crime of insulting the officers in a chain, it was also claimed that the prisoners also committed the crime of threatening in a chain manner.
TRIAL WITH HEARING
Urfa 4th Criminal Court of First Instance, which accepted the indictment, decided to conduct a trial by opening a hearing, even though the accusations were "crimes subject to simple trial procedure". The court set the date of the first hearing as January 19, 2024.
REQUEST FOR CONDITIONAL RELEASE OF REN WAS REJECTED
Ren, who was detained and arrested on the grounds of a prison sentence found in a different file during home raids in Amed on October 25, 2022, within the scope of an Ankara-based investigation, sent a petition to Diyarbakır 1st Execution Judgeship on August 31 for "conditional release". The judgeship rejected Ren's request on the grounds that "prisoners and convicts who are active members of the PKK organization voluntarily held in their wards."
