ISTANBUL - Detained journalist Celalettin Yalçın was arrested.
Journalist Celalettin Yalçın was detained in the Esenyurt district of Istanbul yesterday during General Information Collection (GBT) procedures. Yalçın, who was detained for allegedly violating the "ban on going abroad" decision given within the scope of a case filed against him in 2017, was taken to the 37th High Criminal Court of the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan after the security procedures.
Yalçın, who testified here, denied the accusations of "violating the ban on going abroad". Yalçın's lawyer, Serhat Çakmak, then made a defense and stated that there was no suspicion of his client absconding. Çakmak said: “This court has been continuing since 2017. The court reached my client whenever it wanted. That's why I demand his release."
The court, which later announced its decision, decided to arrest Yalçın on the grounds that he had "suspicion of escape". Journalist Yalçın was transferred to Metris Prison.
