ATTACK AFTER CANDIDATE INTRODUCTION
Speaking to our agency about the attack, DEM Party Bursa Provincial Co-Chair Mehmet Deniz Büyükak stated that there was a similar provocation attempt against their party during the candidate promotion program in the district. Büyükak said: “Yesterday, we held a candidate promotion in Inegöl with great public participation. There were some provocateur attempts from the environment during the candidate presentation, but we prevented this provocation from escalating by approaching it with common sense. In the evening, around 09.00 pm, a young person attacked with an axe and broke windows, frames and doors. Aside from the material damage, he also attacked our member who was passing by with an axe. After the attack, we came in front of our district building with our people and condemned the attack with slogans such as 'we will not allow fascism'. We know that the attack was not carried out by just one person, but that there were organized forces behind it. These forces need to be revealed."
Büyükak stated that they will file a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office regarding the attack.
AN ATTACK ON DEMOCRACY
DEM Party Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor candidate Ihsan Seylan stated the following about the attack: “The police officers who came to the scene classically tried to attribute the incident to one person, but we see this as an attack on our election work and democracy in Bursa. We are one of the biggest parties in Turkey. The investigation into the attack must be conducted in a transparent manner. We also expect all other parties to make a statement against the attack if they have any sincerity."
