KAYSERİ - Şaban Kaygusuz, a 90 percent disabled prisoner who is missing one hand and one leg, stated that he was held in solitary cell and his request for transfer was rejected without justification.

Şaban Kaygusuz, a prisoner in Kayseri Bünyan Type T Closed Prison No. 2, stated that he was put in a solitary cell during an open meeting with his family. 90 percent disabled prisoner who is missing his right hand and right leg Kaygusuz stated the following: “Recently two wards in the prison were merged. In the old ward, the stairs were not very steep, so I could crawl up and down the stairs. However, in the new ward, the stairs are very steep and I cannot climb up and down without someone's help. I don't want to disturb my friends every time. A few times in the evenings, I fell while trying to go down. I contacted the prison authorities about this.”

Kaygusuz said that he had petitioned to be transferred to the prison in Dîlok (Antep), where his family lives, but his request was rejected without justification. Kaygusuz stated that his request for transfer was not met and that he was placed in a solitary cell. Noting that he could not stay in a room with steep stairs and that he did not want to disturb his friends, Kaygusuz said he would stay in the cell until the problem was solved. Kaygusuz asked human rights organizations to take initiatives to find a solution to the problems he faces.

Kaygusuz's mother Zeynep Kaygusuz reacted to the incidents and reminded that they had made many attempts to transfer her son to a prison close to them. Mother Kaygusuz demanded that her son's demands be met and said that the prison administration and the Ministry of Justice would be responsible if something happened to him.
