ŞIRNEX - Speaking at the Newroz celebration attended by thousands of people in Şirnex, DBP Deputy Co-chair Hüseyin Birlik drew attention to Abdullah Öcalan's call and said, "We must crown this process with out struggle."
In Şirnex (Şırnak), a Newroz celebration was organised by Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and Free Woman Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA) with the slogan "Democratic Society for Freedom/Rêbertiya Azad Civaka Demokratîk (Free Leader, Democratic Society)". Thousands of people as well as Peace Mothers' Assembly, DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan and DEM Party Şirnex MPs attended the celebration held in the Newroz area. Women and young people showed great interest in the celebration where "Freedom Newroz" banners were displayed. Women and young people who were in the area in the early hours of the morning danced halay accompanied by slogans and chants.
The Newroz celebration started with a minute of silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the struggle for democracy and freedom, and the slogans "Bijî Serok Apo (Long live Leader Apo)" and "We will win if we resist" were chanted frequently.
DBP Deputy Co-chair Hüseyin Birlik stated that Abdullah Öcalan's "Call for Peace and Democratic" society is a historical opportunity for all peoples living in Turkey and the Middle East. Birlik said, "Mr Öcalan made a very historic call on 27 February. This call is an opportunity for all the peoples of the Middle East. We all need to embrace this historice opportunity. We need to crown this call with our struggle. We believe in and stand behind the centenary project of our leader."
DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan reminded the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Co-mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and stated that lawlessness has spread to all areas of life. Referring to the call of Öcalan, Ayşegül Doğan said, "We must fight together so that no one from Kurds, Arabs, Turks and other peoples die. Mr Öcalan has opened the doors of an honourable life for us. Today the attitude and stance of Şirnex is clear, let no one say that this call did not reach Şirnex. Today this people here embrace this call."
After the speeches, the Newroz fire was lit. The Newroz celebration continues with the songs performed by artists Sorjiyan and Hozan Şervan.
