ISTANBUL - Abdullah Öcalan, who has not been heard from in Imrali Prison for 38 months, has been given a new 6-month ban on seeing a lawyer. Lawyers will apply to the Constitutional Court against the decision.

There has been no news from PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who is held in absolute isolation in Imrali Type F High Security Closed Prison, since his interrupted phone call with his brother Mehmet Öcalan on March 25, 2021. While the lack of communication continued, Abdullah Öcalan and Ömer Hayri Konar, Veysi Aktaş and Hamili Yıldırım, who were held in İmralı, were given a new 6-month ban on meeting lawyer.

Lawyers of Asrın Law Firm applied to Bursa 2nd Execution Judgeship, demanding a meeting. After the application, the lawyers learned that a new 6-month lawyer ban decision was issued for their clients on May 3. No information was given to lawyers about the reason for the ban.

Objections to the decision were rejected. Lawyers will apply to the Constitutional Court (AYM) against the ban decision.

AT LEAST 13 LAWYERS MEETING BANNED IN 8 YEARS

Abdullah Öcalan was last banned from meeting lawyers for 6 months on October 31, 2023. The judgeship rejected the demnad for the content of the ban decision and the file sample, citing "security" reasons. The lawyers' objection to the ban decision to a higher court was also rejected.

The ban, which was imposed during the state of emergency in July 2016, was continued until February 2018. After this date, seeing a lawyer began to be banned for 6-month periods. With the latest ban decision, Abdullah Öcalan has been banned from meeting lawyers at least 13 times in the last 8 years.

Family meetings are also prevented with similar prohibition orders.
