An investigation was initiated against Istanbul Bar Association for its post about journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin, who were killed while following news reports in Northern and Eastern Syria. Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated an investigation against Istanbul Bar Association President İbrahim Kaboğlu and members of the board of directors, citing "making propaganda for an illegal organisation" and "publicly disseminating misleading information to the public" as grounds for the investigation.
In the statement made by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated as follows; "Due to the words praising PKK members Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin, and the determination that they were killed due to their so-called journalistic activities and journalist identities, and the dissemination of misleading information that our state committed so-called war crimes, an investigation was initiated ex officio by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the Istanbul Bar Association Chair and members of the board of directors for the crimes of 'making propaganda for an illegal organisation and publicly disseminating misleading information to the public'."
