MERSİN - DEM Party Akdeniz Municipality co-mayors Hoşyar Sarıyıldız and Nuriye Aslan were detained. The police blockaded the municipality and said, "Trustee appointed".
Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) co-mayors of Mersin, Akdeniz Municipality, Hoşyar Sarıyıldız and Nuriye Arslan, and municipal council members Özgür Çağlar, Hikmet Bakırhan and Neslihan Oruç were detained in house raids. The reason for the detentions of the co-mayors and council members could not be learnt. Akdeniz Municipality building was also blockaded by the police with barriers.
TRUSTEE APPOINTED
DEM Party Mersin MP Ali Bozan, who was prevented to entering the municipality, stated that the police said that a search was being conducted inside. Bozan said, "We were prevented from entering Akdeniz Municipality by the police and were told that the trustee had issued a ban order. 'A trustee has been appointed to Akdeniz Municipality and this will be published on the website of Mersin Governorate'. Trustee system is usurpation, trustee system is theft of will, we do not accept the decision to appoint a trustee to Akdeniz Municipality."
