NEWS CENTER – An explosion at a mosque in the Wadi al-Dahab neighbourhood of Homs, Syria, has reportedly left many people dead and injured.
A bomb attacks was carried out on the Imam Ali Bin Abi Talib Mosque belonging to the Alevis in Homs. According to initial reports, 8 people were killed and 18 injured in the attack. The Hawar News Agency (ANHA) reported that the explosion was caused by a suicide attack.
According to Syria's official news agency SANA, a security source said initial investigations showed that the explosion was caused by explosive devices placed inside the mosque. Numerous medical and firefighting teams were dispatched to the scene after the explosion.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) stated that the mosque targeted in the attack was the Imam Ali Bin Abi Talib Mosque. The mosque in question belongs to the Alevis. The Ministry of Health of the interim Damascus government announced that the death toll from the attack had risen to 8. 18 people were also injured in the explosion.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
