AMED – Watching the weapon destruction ceremony of PKK on television, Amed citizens emphasized the need for contitutional guarantees for those who have laid down their arms.

Following the call by Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan, the “Peace and Democratic Society Group” burnt their weapons during a ceremony held in Şikefta Casenê (Jasana Cave), near Sulaymaniyah. Citizens of Amed (Diyarbakır), who followed the event closely, once again voiced their demands for peace.

DEMAND FOR CONSTITUTIONAL GUARANTEES

Dilan Icer emphasized that anyone who contributes to ending bloodshed and building an honourable peace will be remembered in history. “There are no winners in war, and no losers in peace. War means death, poverty. We don’t want our youth to die. A constitutional framework should be created to guarantee the safety of those who laid down their arms. We want to see them among us.”

Zulkuf Ozdemir noted that the Kurdish people have paid a heavy price and are now a party to building a dignified peace: “We are at the beginning of a new phase. The state saw that the wars in the Middle East had reached its doorstep, Syria, Iraq, Iran. That is why it called Ocalan to the Parliament. There have been losses on both sides. No one loses in peace.”

‘WE WANT PEACE’

Mehmet Ince emphasized their longing for peace: “Violence benefits no one. The ongoing war has destroyed many things, especially the economy. Our demand is that everyone take part in building an honorable peace. We thank anyone who contributes to peace. The Kurds have taken many steps; now the state must also take action.”

Husamettin Kardas said: “We want a peace process that will set an example for the world. It’s time for the state to act. Peace cannot be one-sided.”

Mehmet Aslan said: “No one truly supports war, only those who benefit from it. Bloodshed must end. The state must find a solution for those who laid down arms and open pathways for them. It must urgently take the steps it has avoided until now. Even a small child could tell you the economy is in bad shape. Peace would improve the economy, and a better life would be possible for everyone.”

Ismail Dinc also called for peace to build a future where peoples can live together in harmony. He noted that evert war has a peace to follow, and called for concrete steps to be taken.
