Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus and representatives of political parties came together for the planned establishment of a commission in the Parliament within the scope of the ongoing "Peace and Democratic Society Process" in the context of the solution of the Kurdish issue. Representatives of political parties attended the meeting held at the Parliament.
Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party Parliamentary Group Deputy Chair Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, CHP Group Deputy Chair Murat Emir, IYI Party Group Deputy Chair Murat Kavuncu, Yeni Yol Party Deputy Mehmet Emin Ekmen, MHP Group Deputy Chair Erkan Akçay attended the meeting. AKP Group Deputy Chairpersons also attended the meeting.
At the meeting, many issues such as whether the commission will be established by law or on Kurtulmuş's initiative, the number of members and principles will be clarified.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Following Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's "Call for Peace and Democratic Society" on 27 February, the PKK convened its congress and decided to lay down arms. In this context, the group deputy chairpersons of the parties for the commission to be established in the Parliament met with Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş.
On 24 June, group deputy chairs of AKP, MHP, DEM Party, CHP, İYİ Party and Yeni Yol Party attended the meeting held in the Parliament. The meeting lasted approximately 2 and a half hours. At the meeting, all parties except the IYI Party agreed on the establishment of the commission. Kurtulmuş requested the parties to submit a draft for the commission.
DEM Party presented the draft commission to Kurtulmuş on 1 July. Later, CHP, Yeni Yol Partisi, MHP, MHP and AKP also submitted their drafts to Kurtulmuş. The DEM Party, the CHP and the New Path Party wanted the commission to be established by law.
