NEWS CENTER - In Syria, 2 thousand 541 people signed the petition "I want to visit Öcalan".
The Syrian Initiative for the Freedom of Leader Abdullah Öcalan and the Syrian Lawyers' Initiative for the Defence of Leader Abdullah Öcalan made a public statement on 20 August to announce the results of the signature gathering campaign they launched across Syria as part of the "I want to visit Öcalan" campaign launched by the European Forum for Freedom and Peace.
The statement made in front of the headquarters of the Syrian Initiative for the Freedom of Leader Abdullah Öcalan in Qamishlo was read in Arabic by Initiative member Jiyan Erkendi and in Kurdish by Lawyers' Initiative member Ahin Heyder.
In the statement, it was stated that the campaign attracted great interest and added: "Human rights defenders, academicians, politicians, intellectuals, tribal leaders, religious people, doctors, engineers, Kurds, Arabs, Assyrians, Assyrians, Armenians, Yazidis, Alawites, Ismaili, Druze, Turkmen, Circassians and many other ethnic and belief groups from all over Syria participated in the campaign. Also, prominent people from Damascus, Aleppo, Latakia, Tartus, Hums, Daraa, Quneitra, Siweyda and Idlib participated."
The statement noted that the campaign was concluded on 10 September and added that a total of 2 thousand 541 people from across Syria participated in the campaign. The statement added that the collected signatures will be submitted to the UN Secretary General, the European Organisation for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), the Presidency of the Council of Europe, the UN Human Rights Council and the Turkish Ministry of Justice.
