NEWS CENTER - Members of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission established in Parliament are travelling to Imrali today to meet with Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
The commission delegation includes Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, Deputy Chair of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party Group, Feti Yıldız, Deputy Chair of the Turkish Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), and Hüseyin Yayman from the Justice and Development Party (AKP). It is reported that the commission will travel to İmralı by helicopter within a few hours.
During the meeting, the commission delegation will listen to Abdullah Ocalan. The minutes of the meeting will be kept confidential for 10 years. It is expected that during the meeting, Abdullah Öcalan will share his views on the reasons for the emergence of the PKK, the Turkish-Kurdish alliance, peace initiatives and proposed solutions, and the law-making process.
The commission ended the lengthy debate on whether or not to visit İmralı at its 18th meeting, and in a vote held on 21 November, a majority voted in favour of the commission meeting with Abdullah Öcalan.
In the vote, the DEM Party, AKP, MHP, EMEP and TİP voted "yes" to the commission meeting with Abdullah Öcalan.
The CHP did not provide members for the delegation to visit Imrali and left the meeting, not participating in the vote. Following the CHP, the New Path Group also announced that it would not provide members for the delegation to visit Imrali.
