ŞIRNEX - Salih Miroğlu, father of Miraç Miroğlu, who lost his life as a result of being hit by an armored vehicle, reacted to the acquittal decision given to the defendant police officer with the words: "If I had hit a police officer, I would have been sentenced to life imprisonment."

A decision was made yesterday in the case filed against the death of 7-year-old Miraç Miroğlu, who died as a result of being hit by an armored vehicle while riding a bicycle in front of his house in Şirnex's Hezex (İdil) district on September 3, 2021.
In the 7th hearing of the case filed against the defendant police officer Metin Kiraz on the charge of "reckless killing", an acquittal decision was given. In their opinion, the prosecutor claimed that the armored vehicle was traveling slowly and that Miraç Miroğlu was "faulty". The prosecutor argued that the accused police officer was "flawless". Miroğlu's family lawyers will take the decision to the Court of Appeal.

BABA MİROĞLU: THE PERSON MUST BE PUNISHED

Evaluating the decision to Mezopotamya Agency (MA), Miroğlu's father, Salih Miroğlu, emphasized that they will fight for the defendant police officer to be punished. Pointing to the verdict hearing, the father said: "The defendant police's lawyer said, 'Miraç was hit by a vehicle when he went onto the main road.' But everyone knows that Miraç was hit by a vehicle on the street in front of the house. There is footage of the incident and the whole neighborhood is a witness. I do not accept this decision. We will object until the end. Our eyes are not on compensation, but on the severest punishment of the perpetrator. Our only goal is to ensure that the perpetrator police officer is punished in the most severe way."

'THEY ARE ENCOURAGED BY THE ACQUITTAL DECISION'

Father Miroğlu said: "Where is the justice? If there was justice, this decision would not have been made. If I had a traffic accident, hit a child and child’s family filed a lawsuit, I would be sentenced to more than 20 years in prison. This is not acceptable. I would not go to the police or anyone else. If a citizen had hit a police officer, citizen would have been sentenced to life imprisonment. This decision invites such incidents. If a police officer had hit a child in another city, neighborhood or street, that means police officer would have been acquitted. They take courage in these acquittal decisions."
