Police, preventing the symbolic May Day celebration in Taksim Square, detained many people including DİSK President Arzu Çerkezoğlu.
In Istanbul, eleven activists of the Labour Movement Party (EHP) were arrested during the reading of a press release marking 1 May.
The police removed the May Day banners of the HDP from all districts of Istanbul. The posters bore messages such as "Not the virus but capitalism kills" and "Long live women's solidarity".
