Turkish Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Leader Devlet Bahçeli, speaking at his party’s parliamentary group meeting stated: “The commission has now entered its final stretch, and delaying a visit to İmralı makes no sense! If no one is willing to go, I will take three of my colleagues with me, I would not hesitate to go to İmralı.”
Sezai Temelli, a parliamentarian from the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party, stated that only unilateral steps have been taken so far in the ongoing process, emphasizing that the commission’s current task is to prepare a report for a special law.
As the unilateral steps taken by the Kurdish Movement continue to spark debate, members of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) criticized the parliamentary commission for still not visiting İmralı Island, calling for immediate action: “The commission must go to İmralı; the doors must be fully opened.”
Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party Spokesperson Aysegul Dogan has called on the government to clearly state its position regarding the possibility of the parliamentary commission meeting with Abdullah Ocalan leaving no room for ambiguity or speculation.
Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus will meet with the group deputy chairs od the members of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission.
The Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party The Central Executive Committee (MYK) convened under the chairship of Co-Chair Tulay Hatimogullari and Tuncer Bakirhan to assess current developments.
Mehmet Rüştü Tiryaki, Deputy Co-Chair of the DEM Party, stated that legal regulations are necessary for the success of the process, saying, “Taking steps will pave the way for integration, social cohesion, and brotherhood between Kurds and Turks.”
Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş will meet with coordinators of the political parties represented on the parliamentary commission established to address the democratic resolution of the Kurdish issue.
President and AKP Chair Tayyip Erdoğan stated that the process has reached a new “crossroad,” emphasizing, “We highly value listening to all parties, even if dissenting or different opinions are expressed.”
Responding to journalists' questions, Tuncer Bakırhan said: “The commission must go to Imrali Island as soon as possible and meet directly with the relevant person. It must hear Mr Öcalan immediately.”
Speaking about the peace process, Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus said: “We will finalise the project, which we have turned into public support, as soon as possible. Weapons will be silenced; brotherhood and solidarity will prevail.”
Speaking at the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Qoser (Kiziltepe) district congress, Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party MP Saliha Aydeniz said: "If the state wants to solve this problem, it must ensure the freedom of Mr Ocalan."
DEM Party MP Cengiz Candar stated that Abdullah Öcalan is the central actor in the ongoing process and emphasized that Turkey must change its policy toward Syrian Kurds. “Putting the Syrian issue in front of the domestic process is like putting the cart before the horse,” he said.
Veteran Kurdish politician Ahmet Türk emphasized that the state must take steps “in line with the spirit of the process,” calling for transparency and concrete action in the ongoing Peace and Democratic Society Process. Türk said: “We are not compromising on democracy or our political principles. The freedom of Abdullah Öcalan would contribute greatly to Turkey’s democracy.”
Journalist Aykan Sever stated that Presiden Recep Tayyip Erdogan returned from his US visit with “specific tasks” assigned by Donald Trump, emphasizing: “Erdogan’s primary mission is to end Gaza and Hamas. Other Muslim countries attending the meeting also supported the goal fo eliminating Hamas.”
